Using a cutting mat and blade or scissors, be sure to hold the blade angle steady and move the material in a circular motion.
02 | CUT SOME MORE SHAPES
If using a blade, cut against a metal straight edge. Cut whatever shapes you want to have for your snake. Pay attention to the corrugation of the cardboard-- it will bend in one direction but not the other!

03 | ATTACH TWO SHAPES WITH A SKEWER
Insert the skewer into the corrugation channel on both pieces of cardboard. It should be snug but allow the pieces to spin.
04 | ATTACH TWO SHAPES WITH A NOTCH
Cut at least 1/2 inch slot on both pieces. Make the notches a little bit skinnier than the width of the cardboard so they fit together.
05 | MAKE AN ACCORDION BEND
Remember: the cardboard will bend in one direction but not the other because of the corrugation. Attach that piece with another notch.
06 | ATTACH A PIECE WITH A BRAD (brass fastener)
Use a hole punch to make a hole in each piece, then push the brad through the two holes and spread out the two tines to hold it in place.
07 | ADD AN ANTENNA OR EYES
A pipe cleaner can be inserted into the corrugation channel of the cardboard. You could make the eye with an added circle layer attached with a brad or glue.
08 | ADMIRE YOUR MAKEY-SNAKEY!
You can add more segments, bends, curves, and decorations. When you're done, show off your makey-snakey to your classmates!
